The right have their undies in a knot because a high school is performing the award-winning play, Falsettos. Falsettos is a musical set in New York City in 1979. Marvin, his son Jason, his psychiatrist Mendel and his male lover Whizzer are Four Jews In A Room Bitching Marvin steps forward to explain his situation: He has left his wife, Trina, for Whizzer, but Marvin wants A Tight-Knit Family and is attempting to forge a new family situation with the addition of Whizzer, a situation no one else is happy with.
The school is Concord-Carlisle High School in Concord, Mass. Their students have some of the best test scores in the nation and college placement rivals elite private preparatory schools.
The play has received numerous awards including:
- Tony Award for Best Musical (nominee)
- Tony Award for Best Book of a Musical (winner)
- Tony Award for Best Original Score (winner)
- Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical (Rupert, nominee)
- Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical (Kaplan, nominee)
- Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical (Walsh, nominee)
- Tony Award for Best Direction of a Musical (nominee)
- Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Featured Actress in a Musical (Walsh, nominee)
- Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Revival (nominee)
- Theatre World Award (Kaplan, winner)
Apparently the hate group, MassResistance, has a direct cable connection to the erudite and always intellectually stimulating Drew Zahn at WorldNetDaily.Those concerned "community residents" are presumably limited to Brian Camenker and a couple of his crackpot devotees. Camenker is wed to the notion that students participating in the production, as well as vulnerable audience members, will immediately morph-to-queer.
If Camenker doesn't like this play I would suggest that he not see this play. Simple enough unless one devotes his enite existence to hating gay people.
Students at a high school in Massachusetts are opening theater doors today for a free performance of scenes from their upcoming musical, a tale about a bisexual father torn between his family and his "gay" lover.
But one organization in Massachusetts is objecting to how the plot redefines "family" and pointing to some of musical's content – including the songs "My Father's a Homo", "Everybody Hates His Parents" and "Four Jews in a Room B----ing" – as blatantly offensive.
Community residents are very concerned about the production's vulgar sexuality and anti-family message," writes MassResistance – a local group that counters promotion of homosexuality in the state – on its blog entry. "Not content with inflicting this on the community in the weeks before Christmas, the school has added a sneak preview scheduled on Thanksgiving Day.

That's pretty funny. Finally someone points out that terms like Concerned Residents or the Community can also easily mean ummm one or two local jackasses with nothing better to do. Great blog, I came in off your post and hashtag about the California Senator and drunk driving after gay bars.

Falsettos is nothing but point less and funny stuff. I can't see the real essence of this paly thing. them far easier to carry than traditional laptops. Falsettos is the lamest gay musical imaginable. If Camenker is so upset about a show as toothless and white-bread as this, he's even crazier than I thought.
I can't figure Camenker out. He doesn't seem to be a Bible thumper. He really hates gay people for some reason.
Maybe the MR bigots could sit around and watch football instead to prove how "manly" they are?
